Senator King to serve as President of the Women’s Caucus


Annapolis, MD – Senator Nancy J. King has been chosen by her colleagues to serve as the President of the Women Legislators of the Maryland General Assembly, Inc., better known as the Women’s Caucus. This bipartisan caucus is 57 members strong and is the first Women’s Caucus established in the United States. Since 1972 the Caucus has advocated legislation to improve the lives and livelihoods of Maryland women and encourages the greater participation of women in Maryland government.

Senator King has over 20 years of public service and currently represents the 39th District located in Montgomery County. She has served in the Maryland Senate since 2007, and is a member of the Budget and Taxation Committee. 

On taking over as President of the Caucus, Senator King stated, “I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure that issues facing women today are in the forefront of our efforts in Annapolis. I also look forward to working with women throughout the state of Maryland to encourage them to become involved in public service on all levels.”

The other members of the 2013-2014 Women’s Caucus Executive Board include President Elect - Delegate Tawanna P. Gaines (Prince George’s County), First Vice-President – Delegate Susan McComas (Harford County), Second Vice-President – Senator Verna Jones-Rodwell (Baltimore City), Secretary – Delegate Ana Sol Gutierrez (Montgomery County), Treasurer – Delegate Aruna Miller (Montgomery County), At-Large Executive Board – Delegate Barbara Robinson (Baltimore City) and Delegate Jeannie Haddaway-Riccio (Caroline, Dorchester, Talbot and Wicomico Counties), Immediate Past President – Senator Catherine E. Pugh (Baltimore City).
